LA Nights: Proper Presents Adi Oasis

One of the best things about living in Los Angeles is that there is always something to do. From surfing to bonfires at sunset; to Michelin-starred dining experiences to late night stops at a curbside taco stand; to pregaming on a rooftop before an arena sporting event, whatever you’re into, you’ll find it in LA.

On the heels of a bustling and busy GRAMMY Week and with All-Star Weekend on the horizon, LA shows no signs of slowing down. Last night was no exception, as a collective of those in the know gathered at Palma Lounge for Proper Presents Adi Oasis. Tucked just inside the Kelly Wearstler-designed Santa Monica Proper Hotel, Palma was the perfect spot for a stylish but casual evening of great music, delicious bites, and speciality sips in partnership with St. Germaine.

The evening was curated by Gold Sky Productions, an LA-based full-service creative event agency responsible for bringing to life high-touch activations for the likes of Disney, Netflix, and Essence Magazine. Adi Oasis, the critically-acclaimed French-Caribbean musician and recording artist who just happens to be one of my faves, turned her musical dexterity to the 1s and 2s. A couple summers ago, I was poolside in Saint-Tropez, mimosa raised in the air singing, “You know you a bad b*tch” from “Adonis,” a track from her phenomenal 2023 release, Lotus Glow (her latest EP, Silver Lining, is available to stream everywhere). Last night, she brought an eclectic blend of global pop, classic soul, and Afrofuturistic funk to the laid back crowd inside Palma. The setlist flowed seamlessly from Sabrina Carpenter‘s “Espresso” to Luther Vandross‘ “Never Too Much” and sprinkled in the Bee Gees (“Love You Inside and Out”), Hall and Oates, and even one or two of her own tunes (pretty sure I heard “In the Sunrise” in the mix), ensuring an even but invigorating vibe throughout the evening. While this wasn’t so much of a dancing crowd, it was a social one, and Adi kept the music at a level that allowed for conversation without strain. It was just as easy to relax in one of the booths and nod your head along with the beat. This was definitely my kind of Thursday night.
